Good morning, Goomba Nation.
A couple of things are on my mind this weekend. I know you all are following the incredible developments in the Massachusetts special election for the U.S. Senate. The coverage across the blogosphere -- including that by Sig here -- has been excellent and most informative.
In a way, Scott Brown's remarkable candidacy has already been a victory for conservatives and freedom-lovers everywhere. But there remains a great opportunity to push Scott Brown over the top and -- dare I say it -- seat a conservative Republican senator from Massachusetts. Let your mind wrap around that thought for a minute. Now, think how a Brown victory might affect the health care "reform" debacle going on right now, as well as the rest of the Obama-Reid-Pelosi agenda. If you haven't given money or volunteered to help in some way, I'd like to encourage you to do so. If you have a New England accent (ahem), perhaps you could make calls for Scott Brown.
As for me, I gave via National Republican Trust PAC. They fight hard and do the heavy lifting where the weak-kneed and cowering may not tread. Here is the link to National Republican Trust.
Of course, you can also help out directly via the Brown for Senate site.
Finally, I'd be remiss without mentioning the devastation going on in Haiti. Of course, we can talk about why and how (there are lots of ideas theories -- some crazy -- floating around) Haiti was in such bad shape even before the quake. But in the end, as Americans we are truly blessed. Let's thank God for our blessings here. If you feel so inclined, maybe you can donate to many of the fine organizations who are part of the Haiti relief effort.
As for me, I went with the American Red Cross.
Have a great weekend. Thank God for ... our health, our families, our homes and myriad conveniences, our nation and our freedom.
This is still the greatest, most generous, awe-inspiring, always-surprising nation in history.
Talk to you soon.
