My first post on GNN - little nervous here.

The State of Massachusetts is suffering from a malaise common to many areas of the nation that share oceanfront property - democratitis. On both the East and Left Coasts this infection has left millions of voters utterly dependant on government and totally oblivious to the character deficiencies of their elected representatives. And no wonder. If you can vote for the likes of Ted Kennedy for decades, your political sensitivity phaser must be set on "Stun Until Dumb." That means you are in perfect condition to vote for Martha Coakley.

While Martha Coakley's slime trail is not as long and wide as that of her recently departed, though still marinating, comrade-in-charms, she compensates magnificently for her lack of licentiousness and depravity with an exceptional streak of incompetence.

Our friends at BigJournalism are likewise impressed with her single- and simple minded devotion to stupidity and willingness to ignore facts - an unbeatable combination in any democratic candidate for Senator.

In researching the ever-intensifying Massachusetts Senate race between Democrat Martha Coakley and her Republican challenger Scott Brown, it only takes a few keystrokes to unearth her ongoing history of questionable judgment and puzzling prosecutorial decisions. Even though the election has been effectively nationalized, with some polls showing the underdog Brown within two points or so of the colorless Coakley, she remains largely unknown outside New England.

So as a public service to the voters of the Bay State, during the run-up to the special election on Jan. 19, Big Journalism will be offering some of the Martha’s Greatest Hits, so that they can fully make up their minds whether she would make a suitable successor to the late Edward Moore Kennedy – who, as you recall, began his illustrious career by being expelled from Harvard for cheating, went on to drown Mary Jo Kopechne at Chappaquiddick, and then turned to a life of drinking and debauchery, including the infamous “waitress sandwich” with soon-to-be-retired Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd, before attempting to inflict “universal health care” on the country shortly before his death last year.

This article on Ted "Wear Your Seatbelt" Kennedy's death pretty well sums it all up, Martha has some incredibly huge shoes to fill. Treachery, lies and treason on the level of Massachusetts' two Senators - Kerry and Kennedy - is not something you can just walk into. There's years of practice and accompanying media enabling that must go hand in hand for a truly memorable political career such as these giants.

We can’t condemn liberalism itself on the strength of Kennedy’s character. It’s only a coincidence that the man who left Miss Kopechne to tap, tap, tap against the Oldsmobile window while he apparently tried to establish an alibi and otherwise cover his ass also spent a lifetime promoting policies that have endangered our freedoms, harmed our economy and damaged the lives of the poor people they were presumably intended to help.

We know she'll try as hard as she can; as a matter of fact, she has hit the ground stumbling running.

1. October 2005: The curling-iron toddler rape case. Coakley brings no charges, then lets the rapist out on no bail.

Even in a place like Boston, which has seen its share of horrific sex crimes in recent years, such as the Jeffrey Curley rape and murder in 1997, this was particularly unsettling.

[...]One of the attorneys who had represented the family of Jeffrey Curley was so outraged at Coakley’s inaction in the Winfield case that he challenged Coakley in her run for A.G. in 2006, but lost.

After Coakley’s foot-dragging, Winfield eventually was found guilty on all four charges of the August 2006 indictment: two counts of rape of a child with force, one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. He was sentenced to two life terms.

So let’s be clear: Martha Coakley failed to take action against a man who molested his own niece, a child, with a curling iron until her hand was finally forced by the victim’s mother.

I've investigated sex crimes. I cannot for the life of me understand how a prosecutor could let this case sit for as long as she did and let her successor put this scum away. I've seen prosecutors chaffing at the bit for far less. Hell, in my office I've watched female ADA's pitch themselves for the "Queen of Mean" as they slam sex offenders with maximum bail and maximum sentences. They do everything but try to castrate the SOB on the witness stand with a butter knife. But Coakley ROR's this pervert? Obviously she was just going through the paces as District Attorney on her way to something else. She had no feel, no passion for the job.

Coakley Internals Show Her at +2: 'May Be Too Far Gone'

Independent journalist Steve Kornacki said just a week ago that Scott Brown didn't have a chance. In a post today in which he reverses course on that prediction, Kornacki has quite the juicy tidbit:

Coakley's internal poll last night, I've been told, showed her barely ahead, 46 to 44 percent. The momentum clearly favors Brown, and one very smart Massachusetts Democrat I know told me this morning that "this may be too far gone to recover."
